Our Korean jingums are suitable for all range of practitioners, from beginner to advanced. They are very sturdy and designed to endure many years of heavy usage. These swords will not bend even on badly executed cuts and the blades require very low maintenance.
Korean Jikdo sword is suitable for Hapkido or Kuk Sool Won(TM)* style swordsmanship. The handle does not have a handguard, allowing reverse blade techniques to be executed. The blade is made of an extremely strong type of steel, L6. Please note, however, that the blade is not differentially heat treated (it is uniformly heat treated).
Jikdo was tested for green bamboo cutting and the test result was very satisfactory. However, slightly faster blade dulling is expected with a jikdo than with a differentially heat treated blade. The durability expectation for a standard jingum is to survive through 100,000 bamboo pole cuttings. With Jikdo, we expect about half of that, but no data is available as of now. We recommend the user to start with soft targets and slowly increase the level of difficulty and target hardness as one gains more confidence in the blade. The jikdo blade is guaranteed not to break in standard cutting practice but warranty does not cover edge chipping, rolling, or blade bending in hard target cutting (although very unlikely to occur).
The scabbard, handle, and hand guards are all handmade and they are perfectly fitted for each sword. The handle is covered with stingray skin and wrapped with leather. A red tassel at the end of the handle is provided with the sword and it can be easily removed or replaced with another tassel.
